“Spacious, modern clean property, lovely location.”

We had a winter holiday at The Old Coastguards. We were quite cold in the house despite two small oil fired radiators in the lounge area. As previously said by other holiday makers the duvet in the main bedroom is thin. The bath plug did not fit, therefore unable to use the bath (to warm up.) Not a comfortable house for a winter break. No access to turn the temperature up. We returned home a few days early.

We are very sorry to hear you were cold, so we have put an extra fan heater in the house. We have bought some more 13.5 tog duvets. It is a great shame you did not contact the local Sykes office, John Bray Cornish Holidays as they have a full time maintenance team and would have immediately seen to the bath issue for you. We have been to investigate and it was merely the 'o' ring that had slipping on the bath plug, it needed pushing back in place, a very simple fix. Property Owner

The property

Perched on the cliff in Port Isaac, The Old Coastguard is a super, contemporary, reverse-level holiday home in Cornwall.

With vast sea views stretching from Lobber Point to Tintagel and beyond, this property is perfect for families, dog owners, and groups of friends looking for a Cornish coastal getaway.

On arrival, off-road parking greets you, and welcomes you into the entrance hall with plenty of storage for coats and shoes.

Head straight up to the first floor, which is sure to be the social hub of the house, due to its stunning, light-filled open-plan living space.

Magnificent, panoramic views make this holiday home stand out from the rest; sink into the huge L-shape sofa, admire the sea views, and be mesmerised by the swell of the ocean.

Dining seating for six guests makes this a unique space to plan your day's adventures, while the group's chef uses the sleek fitted kitchen to prepare a delicious meal.

Completing this floor is a cloakroom and a larder with lots of room to store your holiday treats and ingredients.

On the ground floor, a super-king-size bed rests in the largest bedroom with a very spacious en-suite bathroom with freestanding bath and walk-in shower, giving you the option of a long pampering soak after a day on the beach or a quick shower before your next excursion.

A snug twin room with dressing table and built-in wardrobe has a shower room right next to it, and heading down a few steps, there is another super-king-size bed with lovely coastal and garden views, and an attractive en-suite shower room for extra privacy.

Outside, the enclosed front garden may steal the show; with sunken seating, well-maintained flower beds, and an uninterrupted view of the picture-perfect coastlines, you'll never want to leave your new home-away-from-home.

When you are ready to venture out and explore, a wooden gate in the garden leads you straight onto the coastal path leading to Port Isaac harbour or to Port Gaverne beach.

Follow the path as far as you wish, perhaps to Port Quin, a beautiful sheltered cove, lovely for a dip at high tide on a calm day.

The area has a selection of excellent restaurants to choose from, including Outlaw's New Road, The Angry Anchovy pizza, The Mote or Port Gaverne Hotel; Fresh from the Sea make delicious crab sandwiches.

Polzeath is a stunning resort within easy reach, a huge beach, wonderful for surfing, boogie-boarding or digging sandcastles.

The Old Coastguard Lookout is an idyllic vacation spot where you can make memories that will last a lifetime.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £400.

About the location

PORT ISAAC

Polzeath 6.5 miles; Padstow 16 miles

Port Isaac; one of the true Cornish treasures. A beautiful fishing village nestling in a steep sided valley, the old village in the valley remains unchanged from its days of fishing, slate export and smuggling in the previous century. An abundance of small character properties complemented by larger cliff-top retreats, can be found with easy access to the numerous restaurants and shops of the village. The sandy harbour provides an abundance of rock pools as the tide retreats. There is ample parking at the top of the village and the village is a popular tourist destination with plenty of attractions including the dramatic Doyden Castle, the beautiful Lundy Bay and the famous Doc Martin's clinic. There are also plenty of pubs, restaurants, and shops in the village. Just a short drive from the beaches of Polzeath, Daymer and Rock, it is perfect for romantic and family holidays alike.

Please note- there are currently building works going on to the property next door, which includes scaffolding, building work noises and work men on site between 8am- 5pm Monday - Friday.

Note: The outside seating provided is sunken to be private and as out of the wind as is possible on such a cliff location; there are no sun loungers provided because in cliff top locations such as this any furniture not secured can be, and become, hazardous very quickly. Please do feel free to bring your own if you wish but they need turning over or putting away if is very windy, or they can be dangerous.

Note: The house does not provide a 'welcome pack' of milk, coffee, tea etc, as the owners worry that these welcome ‘gifts’ are not to everyone's taste and can therefore be environmentally very wasteful.

Note: The house heating is set to heat the property to 21 degrees all the time, 24 hours a day.
If the weather is extremely cold outside (lower than 0 degrees, which is rare for Cornwall but does happen) then an air source heat pump, which is how the house is heated, can struggle to maintain 21 degrees, all the time. But it does maintain, in those extreme circumstances, 19-20 degrees. The house is a new build “A” rated energy house. These newer homes do work differently to oil and gas heating systems that we are historically used to.

Blankets have always been provided for the sitting room and the bedrooms for those that feel the cold more than others.
