“2nd holiday at the Highlands cottage in Trelights village, the cleanliness was much improved this time, though a shame the front window/patio door was very foggy, the cottage is well equipped and all linen and towels were of good quality and very clean, We felt very at home and once again thoroughly enjoyed our stay in beautiful Cornwall!”

We like that the village isn't far in either direction to other great areas and beaches, our dogs love Daymar bay and went most evenings for our last walk.. The garden was well used as the weather was very kind to us. There are 2 deck chairs in the garage to use if weather is nice, the table and chairs in the garden are ready for some TLC but do the job, we ate outside most days. The garden is safe and secure and our dogs love it. (For other dog owners there is a dog poo bin at the start of the cul de sac) lovely friendly little village to walk around and chat with people. There was quite a few road works in and around Trelights village, we were detoured around lots of small winding roads which was interesting if not a little scary..

The property

Highlands is a warm, welcoming detached bungalow settled in the peaceful hamlet of Trelights near Port Isaac, Cornwall.

Highlands is a lovely family home which is also suitable for a group of adults as it accommodates up to five guests looking to go on their next adventure in Cornwall, with a plethora of seaside escapades, including the Doc Martin-famed village of Port Isaac resting a stone's throw away. Make use of the private driveway, set your bags down and relax upon entering Highlands.

The welcoming interiors means you can be embraced by the warmth of a woodburning stove in the sitting room and enjoy a well-deserved rest on the sofa. Thoughtful interior touches ensure you will feel at home in your coastal abode, benefiting from the comforts of two large sofas to curl up in and a smart TV for those evenings catching up on your holiday boxsets.

While everyone can stay connected to the outside world with technology with WiFi throughout, the whole family will appreciate the lovely collection of books in the lounge too, for tuning out of reality. Continue down the hallway to the open plan kitchen/diner, a charming room with natural light flooring in through the large kitchen window and back door.

The kitchen offers the designated chef everything they need to prepare delectable dishes for the entire family to enjoy together at the dining table while chatting over the day's activities.

If you have picked up supplies of Cornish food from Trevathan Farm Shop (down the road in St. Endellion) you are sure to be in for a delicious meal!

In the summer, fling open the back door onto the garden to let the fresh air in and the children potter out.

Further along the hallway, there are three well-appointed bedrooms to choose from; a master at the back of the house overlooking the garden with a king size bed, a bedroom also at the back with twin beds which gives children (or adults) their own retreat and a light airy bedroom at the front with a day bed which can be pulled out into a small double to give your fifth guest extra comfort and their own room. The bedrooms are all near to the shower room, where you can refresh after a day out at the beach.

The quaint, enclosed garden offers a moment of solace, where you can be encompassed by the crisp, coastal air as you sip a steaming cup of coffee in the morning. If the children have any energy left after the delights of the local beaches and activities, they can play out on the lawn while adults can sprawl in privacy.

For your daily adventures, the welcoming village of Port Isaac, home to a magnificent harbour is just 1.9 miles away with Port Gaverne Beach just down the hill and features access to the South Western Coastal Path, and a wealth of services, from independent shops, pubs and cafés.

Be sure to spot the familiar sights from the Doc Martin series and Fisherman's Friends films, in the summer you may even catch them singing at the harbour.

In the summer season, the Slip and Slide in St. Endellion will be children's new favourite activity while adults may prefer a gentle paddle board or kayak in the bay of Port Quin.

Polzeath is only a short distance away, with its beach offering a fantastic day out for families and surfers, along with the National Trust's observation deck, Pentire, offering walkers stunning, coastal views and birdwatching opportunities. There are smaller, quieter coves accessible at low tide too which mean you will escape the crowds, such as Lundy Bay within easy access of Highlands.

From the picture-postcard village of Rock nearby, take the footferry and cross over to Padstow, which is home to the magnificent Prideaux Place country house, the intriguing National Lobster Hatchery and plenty of local shops and cafes, you can even sit on the harbour wall and drop your crab line down to pick up some snappy friends!

There is plenty to see in this marvellous area, why not head north to see the history at Tintagel Castle ruins or for retail therapy, the charming town of Wadebridge Highlands is the perfect retreat for a staycation in Cornwall.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £100.
